Our latest toolkit was written by members of the Us Too team. Us Too is a team of women with learning disabilities and autistic women, all of whom have experienced domestic abuse, sexual violence or both. The team is supported by ARC England, which is a membership organisation for learning disability and autism support services.
People with learning disabilities are three times more likely to experience domestic abuse. This toolkits encourages practitioners to:
- Recognise signs of abuse
- Understand specific factors affecting people with learning disabilities
- Respond appropriately to disclosure
- Consider the Mental Capacity Act and assess capacity
